Are there dolphins in Fuengirola all year?
Yes. The bottlenose dolphins of the Alborán Sea do not migrate the way whales do: there are resident groups along the whole Málaga coast, and Fuengirola bay is one of the places they show themselves most. Summer brings calmer seas and more departures, but a still winter day is just as good for seeing them — and far less crowded.
Are sightings guaranteed?
No, and anyone promising otherwise is selling you something. What the numbers do support is that sighting rates in this bay are high. Go out on a flat sea without rushing and you will usually see them. On a choppy day it gets harder: in a swell, a fin two hundred metres away is invisible.
